Chief negotiator of LTTE dies

COLOMBO, Dec 14: Theoretician and political adviser of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), Anton Balasingham, died in London on Thursday, the group said in a statement posted on a website.

Mr Balasingham, 68, had been associated with the LTTE for over 30 years and had participated as chief negotiator on behalf of the Tamil Tigers in almost all political negotiations with the Sri Lankan government since 1985.

Domiciled in London, he had been suffering from diabetes for 35 years and in the late 1990s he developed renal disease.
