Gateways along border planned

By Saleem Shahid

QUETTA, Dec 13: Balochistan Governor Owais Ahmad Ghani has said the government is opening three more gateways along the Afghan border to promote trade with Afghanistan.

Speaking at the foundation-lying ceremony of the F. G. Public School in Nushki on Wednesday, he said enhancing trade between the countries would benefit the two governments and their people. He said four gateways had already been opened on the Pakistan-Iran border.

The Frontier Corps, Balochistan, will provide Rs23 million for construction of the F. G. school which will have modern facilities. Mr Ghani said the government was paying special attention to promotion of trade in Balochistan and the opening of gateways along the borders with Iran and Afghanistan was a step in that direction.

The governor urged the people to cooperate with the government in the development process. Peace and order were necessary for development, he added. “People must forge unity in their ranks and should work jointly for a bright future,” he said, adding that conflicts and disputes could not resolve problems.

He said the government was spending billions of rupees on promoting education in Balochistan. Many schools were being opened. Federal and provincial governments would provide funds for the purpose, the governor said.
