Rs310 million compensation for victims in Waziristan

Bureau Report

PESHAWAR, Dec 13: The government has sanctioned Rs310 million as compensation to be paid to the victims of conflict in North Waziristan Agency. The compensation will be paid to the victims of collateral damages caused as a result of military operations carried out in the area.

Shah Zaman Khan, spokesman for the civil secretariat, Fata, said on Wednesday that a committee had been formed to assess the loss of property and human lives and re-veracity of the claims already received by the political administration.

The committee, he said, comprised members from the political administration, armed forces and elders of the agency.

Mr Zaman Khan said that disbursement would be started shortly.

Under the peace accord signed with the tribal elders, the government will pay compensation to victims' families.
