17 projects to be completed in Gilgit

Published December 14, 2006

GILGIT, Dec 13: The Gilgit administration has decided to complete 17 small development projects in the district from the fund sanctioned for the drought emergency relief assistance.

Sources said that the Gilgit deputy commissioner had held a meeting with the officials of sub-divisions and discussed the projects.

Six projects will be executed in Gilgit sub-division, four in Nagar sub-division and seven in Hunza sub-division.

These projects included water channels, link roads and repair of damaged agriculture infrastructure.

The officials, however, did not mention the amount to be spent on these projects nor did they mention about the payment of compensation to thousands of farmers who suffered during last year’s floods and droughts.

They said that upcoming projects would be carried out with the consultation of all stakeholders in future.
