KARACHI: Man shot dead trying to save wife’s jewellery

KARACHI, Dec 13: A medicine trader was shot dead while resisting armed robbers in Mehmoodabad late on Tuesday night. Police said Muhammad Amin, 50, of Karachi Administrative Society Block 7, was passing through Mehmoodabad area with his wife when armed men stopped their car in Mehmoodabad No 4. They deprived Amin of his cellphone and money. When the robbers were snatching his wife’s jewellery, Amin tried to stop them. The bandits opened fire, took the jewellery and fled.
Police said Amin succumbed to his wounds while he was being taken to Hospital. His wife fainted after she saw her husband shot. The shopkeepers in the wholesale medicine market observed a shutter down strike on Wednesday to protest against the murder of their colleague.
KILLED: The headless body of a young man was found from a vacant plot in Shahnawaz Colony, Surjani Town on Wednesday.Police said the man was in mid30’s. They shifted the body to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for an autopsy.
ACCIDENT: A rickshaw driver died in a road accident on Wednesday morning.
Police said 50-year-old Ayub Karim was sitting in his parked rickshaw at Chakiwara Road when a rashly driven bus of route 7-C rammed his tri-wheeler causing his instant death. Police said they had arrested the bus driver Nasir
LIQUOR DEATHS: Two persons died after consuming home made liquor in Surjani Town.
Official at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital said two persons Rafiq, 32 and Irfan,35 were brought from different areas of Surjani Town in precarious condition. They died shortly after arriving at the Hospital.
FIRE: A fire broke out in Madina Shopping Mall in Saddar on Wednesday.
A Fire Department spokesman said the blaze erupted in the office of Golden Tea Company located on the first floor of the shopping mall.
Four fire tenders and city’s only snorkel were pressed into action to control the fire. Office equipment and furniture was gutted in the fire. Electricity supply to the building was disconnected for a short while after the fire.
