MULTAN, Dec 12: Precautionary measures have been taken here at the Multan Cricket Stadium (MCS) to avoid any power failure during the fourth ODI against the West Indies on Wednesday.

A major power breakdown at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore in the third One-day International has forced the organisers to take all the possible steps to avoid any such incident here.

In Lahore, play remained suspended for around 66 minutes due to sudden power failure that took place in one of the floodlight poles at the Gaddafi Stadium.

The PCB appointed manager’s Multan Stadium, Col Mansoor Saeed told Dawn that precautionary steps had been taken here to avoid that kind of situation.

“Six generators are coming from Lahore, each having a capacity of 400kv, as alternate for every electric pole,” he said, adding that as the each pole lights up with 400kv, but in Multan only 150kv generators were available, therefore generators had been brought from Lahore.

Mansoor stated that the floodlights system of the Multan Stadium was better than that of Lahore, as all the poles had their own supply system (in Multan) instead of inter-link with each other. In case of a failure, (lights off) all the poles would not be closed but only the affected one, he informed.

“The stadium also has the power supply from two feeders and if power fails from a feeder the whole floodlights system will automatically get the supply from the second,” Mansoor added.

Moreover, two Wapda officials would be deputed at each pole to take appropriate action immediately in case of any disturbance, he asserted, adding that in Lahore the delay to solve the problem also emerged as it took time to detect the source of the fault.
