David, Chiu score quick victories

DOHA, Dec 12: Double world champion Nicol David and defending Asian Games gold medallist Rebecca Chiu breezed into the women's squash semi-finals on Tuesday with quickfire wins.

David, fresh from her World Open triumph in Belfast last month, saw off South Korea's Park Eun Ok 9-0, 9-0, 9-4 in just 19 minutes.

Chiu, who beat David to take the women's title in Busan four years ago, needed two minutes fewer to reach the last four with a 9-3, 9-1, 9-2 win over India's Joshana Chinappa.

In Wednesday's semi-finals, David will play Hong Kong's Mak Pui Hin while Chiu meets Malaysia's Sharon Wee.

Meanwhile, men's top seed Mohammad Azlan Iskander made the last four with a 9-7, 9-5, 9-2 win over Pakistan's Aamir Khan and will face another Pakistani Mansoor Zaman for a place in the final.

Mansoor reached the last four with a 3-0 win over Hong Kong's Wong Wai Hang.

India's Saurav Ghosal defeated Thailand's Ritwik Bhattachharya 2-1 and will face Malaysia's defending champion Ong Beng Hee, who saw off Ali Al Ramezi of Kuwait 3-0, in the other semi-final.—AFP
