RAWALPINDI, Dec 11: Some daredevil thieves have stolen telephone cables of the heavily guarded exchange of the general headquarters (GHQ) rendering nearly 100 telephones out of order, police said.
Subedar Mohammad Ilyas lodged a complaint with the Civil Lines police that the telephone cable connecting residences of army officers in Morgah and Defence Housing Authority had been stolen.
The 12-metre cable passed in front of Ayub Park, close to President Gen Pervez Musharraf’s official residence.
In a similar incident recently, a five-metre telephone cable was stolen due to which 1,000 telephone lines were affected.
ROBBERIES: Two robberies were committed in different parts of the city on Monday, police said.
Mohammad Rehan complained to the New Town police that two unidentified persons snatched Rs25,000 and a cellphone from him at gunpoint.
Usman Ahmed told the New Town police that three motorbike riders held him at gunpoint and shot and injured him on resistance. The bandits snatched cash and his cellphone and fled.
In Taxila, two robbers deprived Asif Mehmood of Rs250,000 and escaped.
