Inside Story eyes second successive win at KRC today

By Anwar Zuberi

KARACHI, Dec 9: Two-year-old bay colt, Inside Story, looks certain to make it two in a row by claiming Sapphire Stakes when the Gymkhana race meeting takes place at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.

After four dismal runs he edged out opponents to land the Sprinter’s Cup last week with jockey M. Nasir aboard.

Owned by Haji Khuda Bux Rajar and saddled by Mushtaq Ali Khan he start as our days best and like to rule the field of 10 runners in the six furlongs race.

His likely challengers are Sir Jee and Mida’s Touch. Of them, the former has potential to turn the table on favourite.

A card of 10 races has been chalked out for the day with first race starting at 11.00am.

Two horses are in contention for claiming seven furlongs colts and fillies trial cup, a handicap race for three-year-old colts and fillies. They are chestnut filly, Eswarah and grey colt, Awan.

After completing hat trick the former lost to Safari Queen in the Shah Mardan Shah Pir Pagara Double Birthday Cup while the latter came out with flying colours on Dec 3.

Eswarah is our fancy among six aspirants and poised to atone to the last defeat.

With two wins under his belt, four-year-old bay colt, The King Of Arab, is tipped to stretch his winning run by capturing the Quaid-i-Azam Trial Cup to be gone over 10 furlongs.

But the running of Naseeb who has specially come here from Lahore has to be watched as he may create an upset.

If tried by connection, Chaleswan Chur, should make amends by winning honours in class V, div I & II. He should be chased by The Conqueror’s Gwenivare.

Three-year-old bay colt, Dubawi, is fancied to pick up spoils in class V, div I & II and class VI. The opposition is likely to come from Sweet Smile and Butter Fly.

After failing to finish on the board twice, chestnut colt, Sindh Malook, may come up with good performance by leading the pack of seven contestants.

Three-year-old bay filly, Lady Conqueror, should oblige punters by winning class VII top division. However, there are other good form horses in the field and if allowed to run on merit, can bring an element of surprise. They are Aie Bahar, Tharkyee and Lucky Friend.

Al Zarrar also had a fair chance of repeating his winning feat overcoming Kat Mandu and Paidagiree.

Fair Boy and Silent Love are favourites to reign supreme in the remaining two races.
