POA units asked to submit contingent details by 20th: 30th National Games

By A Sports Correspondent

KARACHI, Dec 9: The affiliated units of Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) have been asked to submit the exact strength of their sportspersons and officials who would feature in next year’s 30th National Games to Sindh Olympic Association by Dec 20.

A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of secretaries of national sports federations and representatives of participating units at a local hotel on Saturday.

The hosts are expecting a massive turn out of approximately 4,000 athletes and officials in the biennial spectacle.

The national federations were informed that as per rules six teams will compete in team sports. Top five outfits recommended by the national sports bodies would be joined by the hosts.

The officials were briefed about venues which have been finalised for holding 27 men and 16 women disciplines already approved by the executive committee of POA in its meeting on Nov 11 at Lahore.

Chaired by president SOA Fakir Syed Ayazuddin, the meeting was attended among others by provincial sports secretary Ghulam Akbar Shah Bokhari, secretary SOA, Ahmed Ali, representatives of nine affiliated units of POA and the concerned disciplines.

The units who were conspicuous of their absence were Punjab and Balochistan.

Pakistan Sports Trust (PST) has lessened the burden by offering Rs20 million for staging the mega event in a befitting manner.
