DOHA, Dec 8: Japan confirmed their growing stature in women's field hockey with a stunning 3-0 win over defending champions China in the Asian Games here on Friday.

All three goals were scored in the first half through Rika Komazawa, Sakae Morimoto and Tomomi Komori to give Japan their third win in four matches at the Al-Rayyan Stadium.

Japan lead the seven-nation round-robin league with 10 points, followed by India and China on nine each and South Korea on seven.

India, rode on a four-goal burst by Surinder Kaur to trounce Hong Kong 7-0 and record their third win in four matches. In the day's third match, Malaysia scored once in each half to defeat Taiwan 2-0. —AFP
