Rs30 million watercourse swept away

DERA GHAZI KHAN, Dec 8: A watercourse built for Rs30 million was swept away soon after water was released in it.

Breaches developed in the banks of the recently completed watercourse, Pir Adil Minor, at several points, inundating standing crops in the area. People have demanded the government compensate their losses and probe into alleged use of substandard material in the construction of the canal.

PROTEST: The residents of Union Council No 7 blocked road on Friday in protest against their nazim and naib nazim for their failure to provide them civic facilities.

Scores of residents from Faridabad and Block No 18 took out the protest demonstration, led by Youth Alliance President Shahid Ameer Bukhari and Vice President Muhammed Ayub, against Union Council Nazim Mehboob Saqib and Naib Nazim Iqbal Nizami. They were carrying play cards and chanting slogan against the nazim and blocked Dera-Jampur Road near the District Headquarters Hospital. The protestors demanded the provision of potable water, sewage system and connections of fuel gas. Mr Bukhari and Mr Ayube told Dawn that their local government’s representatives had failed to deliver. — Correspondent
