Rocket emerges dud after 18 years

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Dec 7: A dud rocket was found from a green area of the city on Thursday, police said. Police believe that this was one of the rockets from the huge Ojhri Camp arsenal which blew up on April 10, 1988 with devastating effects.

A shepherd stumbled upon the rocket in a wooded area in G- 11/1 and informed the police. It must have impacted deep into the earth but the recent rains apparently exposed it.

Police and bomb disposal squads rushed to the scene and cordoned off the area. But the bomb disposal declared the rocket “a dud” after inspection and took it away with them.

A quick survey of the area around the discovery unearthed no other missiles.
