HYDERABAD, Dec 7: The activists of Awami Tehrik on Thursday observed a token hunger strike outside the Hyderabad press club to protest against the proposed construction of Kalabagh and other controversial dams on River Indus. The central leaders of the party Vishnu Mal, Zahid Mallah and Ali Ahmed Leghari led the hunger strike.

Talking to newsmen, they said that the proposed construction of Kalabagh, Akhori, Bhasha and other dams was tantamount to committing robbery on the River Indus waters.

They said that these dams will destroy Sindh and their adverse effects will be felt for centuries. They claimed that the construction of dams on the Indus River was not only flagrant violation of constitution, law and fundamental human rights, but they will also endanger the unity and solidarity of the country. They pledged to continue the struggle.
