KARACHI, Dec 7: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan said on Thursday that the ‘Hamara Karachi’ programme would be made a memorable function to highlight historical and cultural identity of Sindh, especially Karachi.

For this coordination of national and international companies would be sought while cultural activities at town and UC level would be kicked of with aim to display traditional music, drama and regional dresses, etc.

Presiding over a high-level meeting to review arrangement regarding `Hamara Karachi’ event, he called for displaying cultural traditions, including bangles, handicrafts, embroidery, traditional cooking techniques, samples of textile and carpets, in their conventional style.

He further said stalls of small industries should be set up in the mega programme and in this regard the Sindh Culture Department would provide full support to the city government.

City Naib Nazim Nasreen Jalil gave an appraisal to the governor at the meeting, also attended by representatives of private companies, heads of civil society organizations, renowned personalities belonging to art and culture besides high-ranked officials.

It was stated at the meeting that art and culture ceremonies would be organized in every town in which eminent singers would perform. In Khalikdina Hall a drama on the historic case of Maulana Muhammad Ali Jauhar, the prominent freedom fighter, would be staged to mark his heroic services. It was further stated there would be a fabulous display of fireworks during the programme on the pattern of international ceremonies in France and China.

The governor was told that about Rs60 million would be spent on the `Hamara Karachi’ programme in which private companies would extend support to the city government. All historical places of metropolis would be renovated.

Dr Ibad also ordered setting up of medical camps at every town where diagnostic and treatment facilities be available besides carrying out eye operations. “A calendar regarding Hamara Karachi will be compiled and a website developed,” he added.—PPI
