Man held after 6 women killed in accident

DOHA, Dec 6: A man who allegedly caused a car crash which killed six young Qatari women as they returned from watching the Asian Games torch relay handed himself into police, local media reported on Wednesday.

The driver of the high-powered, four-wheel drive Land Cruiser lost control of the vehicle because the man was trying to take photographs of the women on his mobile telephone as the vehicle sped along a highway on the outskirts of the city, a family source told the Gulf Times.

The accused is understood to be a neighbour of the victims' family.

“The culprit handed himself into the police after he received death threats,” the family source told the newspaper.—AFP
