TDAP to help promote exports

ISLAMABAD, Dec 6: The Standing Committee on Commerce was informed on Wednesday that Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) would be a pro-active institution, which would work for the development and promotion of exports, yielding maximum benefits at the international level.

The committee meeting was held at the Parliament House under the chairmanship of Iqbal Mohammad Ali Khan, MNA, to discuss promulgation of ordinance on TDAP and formation and constitution of the board of governors of Pakistan School of Fashion and Design Lahore.

The committee was further informed that TDAP would be an autonomous body functioning independently both in its administrative and financial spheres.

The TDAP chairman informed that 10 persons from private sectors have been included in its board of directors in addition to senior government officers.

The committee recommended that two members of the parliament be included in EXPO Steering Committee.

The committee was informed that Pakistan School of Fashion & Design Lahore would work under the Ministry of Commerce but would be regulated through Higher Education Commission of Pakistan.

The committee expressed dissatisfaction over the formation of the board of governors of Pakistan School of Fashion and Design and recommended that two members of the Parliament may also be included in the school's board.

MNAs Mrs Tahira Asif, Mrs Afsar Begum, Rana Tariq Javaid, Farhan Latif, Ms Kashmala Tariq, and Mohammad Hanif Abbasi members of the committee attended the meeting.—APP
