Rs3.935bn decline in sales tax collection

ISLAMABAD, Dec 6: The revenue realization under the heads of sales tax and customs duty has registered a negative growth during the first five months of the current fiscal year as against the targets set for the same period.
Official figures released after the Economic Coordination Committee meeting here on Wednesday showed that only the collection on account of direct taxes and federal excise duty has registered growth during the period under review.
Official figures showed that the collection of sales tax has reached Rs124.865 billion during the July-November period of the current fiscal year as against the target of Rs128.8 billion, indicating a decline of Rs3.935 billion.
The revenue collection from customs duties reached Rs49.1 billion during the July-November period of the current fiscal year as against the target of Rs56.1 billion set for the same period, showing a decline of Rs6 billion.
The tax receipt on account of excise duties has surpassed the target of Rs24.9 billion set for the period under review and the revenue collection under the head reached Rs25 billion.
The revenue on account of direct taxes has shown an increase of Rs14.5 over the target by collecting Rs96.8 billion during the July-November period of the current fiscal year against Rs82.3 billion target set for the same period this year.
