Most JUI-F members against resignation

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Dec 5: The Majlis-i-Shoora of JUI(F) concluded its meeting here on Tuesday after discussing in detail whether to act on MMA Supreme Council’s decision to resign from the National Assembly.

According to insiders, a majority of shoora members were in favour of delaying resignations and instead suggested launching an all-out anti-government campaign.

After the meeting, JUI chief Maulana Fazlur Rahman said that recommendations unanimously adopted by the shoora would be presented to MMA’s Supreme Council and parliamentary party meeting on Wednesday and these would not be disclosed before that.

Talking to newsmen on Monday, the Maulana had hinted at the possibility of delaying resignations and suggested launching the anti-Musharraf movement as a first step.

In a brief encounter with mediamen on Tuesday, the Maulana strongly condemned the planting of a bomb outside NWFP Chief Minister’s offices on Tuesday, and accused federal intelligence agencies of trying to destabilise the provincial government.

He said the party shoora, besides considering the mechanism for the proposed resignation from the National Assembly, also discussed the issue of forging alliance with other parties for the coming elections.

The Deputy Parliamentary leader of the MMA, Hafiz Hussain Ahmed, told Dawn that he had suggested to the party shoora to keep all aspects in view before taking any decision over the issue of resignation. These aspects, he said, included a possible cooperation with other opposition parties.

He said he had also stressed the need for keeping the religious alliance intact because it was what he called the last hope of the people and if it disintegrated Qazi Hussain Ahmed and Maulana Fazlur Rahman would both be held equally responsible.

Hafiz Hussain said the majority decision should prevail in the MMA’s parliamentary group meeting.

Online adds: Hafiz Hussain suggested that the alliance should part ways with the Balochistan government over the issue of Women’s Protection

Bill.

“We are partners of the ruling coalition in Balochistan. Therefore, instead of enforcing the Women’s Protection Bill in the province, we should quit the government,” the JUI leader said.
