Rain damages transformer, 100 meters

By Our Correspondent

VEHARI, Dec 5: Monday’s rain damaged more than 100 meters and a transformer in the district. It is learnt that most of the meters were eight to 10 years old and installed on the poles outside houses in various localities, especially in Mailsi areas, Garah Morr, Tibba Sultanpur, Luddan, old bus stand areas and Chak 9-11/WB.

The transformer, which supplied power to the Mailsi THQ Hospital, also burnt.

Dr Jam Arshad said on Tuesday the transformer was repaired recently by collecting donation from doctors. It was repaired twice in the recent past and needed to be replaced, he continued.

He said the Mepco staff had not yet started repair or installation of transformer on a temporary basis despite complaints.

Due to power outage, operations had been cancelled and patients had started shifting to private clinics, he added.

When contacted, Mailsi Mepco officials said a summary to install new transformer had been sent to the high-ups and its reply was being awaited.

They said they had no extra transformer to replace the old one.

Meanwhile, Vehari Mepco SDO said new meters were not available in the circle.

He said applications were received here on Tuesday to replace burnt meters. They could be replaced in a month as a demand for meters had been sent to the high-ups, he added.
