MMA stance a gimmick, says Muqam

SHANGLA, Dec 5: Federal Minister for Political Affairs and Provincial President of PML Engr Amir Muqam on Tuesday termed the apparently tough stance of the MMA on the Protection of Women Act as a political gimmick.

Talking to reporters on the phone in the “Rabta” programme of the Bisham Press Club, the minister said MMA had lent invaluable support to the government on a number of issues in the past, whether it was LFO or election of a president in uniform.

Amir Muqam said the religious alliance had supported PML in the formation of a government in Balochistan and they would now hopefully abandon their hostile attitude towards the Act. The MMA did not want to lose their government in the NWFP and the senate seats. The threat of resignations from the National Assembly was a hoax, he added.

“MMA support in the past indicates their friendly attitude towards the government for sustainable democratic culture in country,” he said. The minister said people were mature and they could no longer be misled by catchy slogans.— APP
