KARACHI, Dec 5: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad has said that development of Karachi, the economic engine of the country, is actually development of Pakistan and in this regard, media can play an important role by portraying the city’s good image.

He was talking to a 39-member delegation of Punjab Assembly Gallery Association (PAGA) headed by Mr Shehzad Zaheer which called on him at the Governor’s House here on Tuesday. Adviser to the CM Salahuddin Haider, Naib City Nazim Nasreen Jalil and provincial Information Secretary Fasihuddin Khan were among those present on the occasion.

Dr Ibad told the delegation that what the country needed the most was political stability which was now being ensured. In this context, he pointed out that for the first time in the country’s history assemblies were set to complete their full tenure. “The devolution system is bringing about a silent revolution in the country and it is backed both by federal and provincial governments,” he noted.

In reply to a question, he argued that had the law and order situation not been satisfactory, investors would not have come to Pakistan where jam packed hotels would also have presented a deserted look. The remarkable improvement in the law and order was also evident from the peaceful holding of the mega events like international exhibitions and cricket matches, he added.

Dr Ibad maintained that “terrorism is an international phenomenon and can happen in any part of the world.” There had been a series of terrorist attacks in 2004, e.g. US consulate blast and attack on corps commander’s convoy, but the scenario had now completely changed, he pointed out.

On issue of big dams, he was of the view that misconception of Sindh people should be removed, and noted that the information provided by media was changing people’s mindset.—PPI
