KARACHI, Dec 5: One more patient suspected to be suffering from viral haemorrhagic fever died at a city hospital during the past 24 hours ending at 2pm on Tuesday, taking the overall dengue-related fatality toll to 49 in the province.
According to the data released by the Dengue Fever Cell of the Sindh Health department, of the 4,318 VHF or DF patients admitted to hospitals since June, 45 died in government or private hospitals in the city, while the other four in interior of Sindh’s hospitals. The number of patients detected positive for dengue fever reached 1,458 on Tuesday in the case of Karachi.
Dr Tajammul Baig of the DFC said that Haji Abdur Rehman, 48, a resident of Moosa Lane, Lyari, was admitted to the Aga Khan University Hospital on November 19 with the history of high fever, rash and bleeding. He was believed to be the victim of the mosquito-caused epidemic and expired on Monday night at the hospital.
In the meantime, 18 more patients were brought to the eight city hospitals for dengue fever treatment during the last 24 hours while 31 patients were discharged. At present, 93 patients are admitted to 12 hospitals.
The DFC data said that another four dengue patients were admitted to hospitals in the interior of Sindh on Tuesday.
At present as many as six patients are admitted to hospitals outside Karachi. A maximum of six patients were rushed to the AKU during the past 24 hours.
