KARACHI: Efforts continue to drain rainwater

KARACHI, Dec 5: The Defence Housing Authority and Cantonment Board of Clifton have jointly taken pragmatic and emergent measures to drain out the water accumulated in various localities of Defence as a result of the torrential rains in the metropolis, a DHA release said on Tuesday.

Elaborate arrangements have been made by the DHA and the CBC to pump out water from low-lying areas badly affected by the downpour. Forty suction pumps, five mobile hydrants, 20 bowzers and three cesspool vehicles have been deployed in this regard.

Leaves of all essential staff of DHA and CBC have been cancelled and they were brought on roads to clean the accumulated water at the earliest.

Complaint centres for rain emergency are fully operational and attending to the residents’ complaints. Residents of DHA, Phase-I to IV can lodge their complaints on telephone numbers 021-5886412 or 0300-8295568 whereas residents of DHA Phase-V to VIII have been advised to contact the Cantonment Board of Clifton on telephone numbers 021-5843321 or 0321-2156230 for the needful.

DHA Administrator and CBC chief executive officer are monitoring the latest situation on ground round-the-clock and issuing necessary instructions on the spot to salvage the situation.

The worst-hit areas include Khayaban Shamsheer, Khayaban Bahria, Dalton Commercial, Tauheed Commercial, Badar Commercial, Khayaban Shujaat, DHA Phase-I and Commercial Streets of DHA Phase-IV. Sewerage lines and stormwater drains in the DHA are working unobstructed and hopefully the residents will not face problems in the aftermath of rain.

GULSHAN: Acting Town Nazim Shoaib Akhtar along with concerned staff visited various areas of town to review the draining out of accumulated rainwater at various arteries and streets on Tuesday.

Shoaib Akhtar said 450 workers were busy in draining out rainwater from major roads of the town.

KEAMARI: Town Nazim Humayun Khan took serious notice of prolonged traffic jam at Maripur Truck Stand and directed the SHO Traffic Mauripur to make arrangements for smooth flow of traffic.

Humayun Khan said illegal parking of trailer-trucks was the main cause of traffic congestion on the road. He asked traffic police personnel to end illegal parking and directed them to challan those found involved in malpractice.

He observed that Mauripur truck stands were situated on the road that leads to 200 goths of Hawkesbay and Mauripur. He regretted some times even ambulances faced hardship in taking patients to hospital on time.

LANDHI: The town administration set up a central complaint centre near Charagh Hotel that would work round-the-clock.

Rabia Basit was made in-charge of the complaint center, while council officer Irshad Arain and DTO Muhammad Sarwar will assist her.
