Some Shura members support Fazl’s stand on resignation
ISLAMABAD, Dec 4: Some senior members of the Majlis-i-Shura of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (F) are reported to have supported Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s stand that MMA legislators should not be in a hurry to resign from the National Assembly.
A meeting of the Majlis-i-Shura held here on Monday with Maulana Fazlur Rehman in the chair discussed the political situation in the country following the enactment of the `protection of women’ law.
According to sources, Maulana Mohammad Khan Sherani spoke against resigining without presenting the party’s point of view on the act and its recommendations. He was supported by Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haidri, Maulana Gul Naseeb and Maulana Abdullah over Maulana Fazl’s stand.
Speaking on the occasion, Maulana Fazl who is secretary-general of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal, said that the MMA would counter every conspiracy, with full force, in and outside parliament to turn the country into a secular state. The two-day Majlis-i-Shura meeting was held at the Jamia Masjid Farooq Azam Al-Marakaz Islami.
Maulana Fazl said that efforts to unite opposition parties on one platform would be accelerated.
He said the government touched other issues rather than taking steps for enforcement of Islamic order to divert attention of masses from real issues. —Online
