VEHARI, Dec 4: More than 10 people were injured in rain related incidents in the district. The rain started on Sunday night and continued intermittently till the filling this report on Monday evening. As an aftermath of rain, a major portion of the city was without electricity. Some of the areas have been without power for more than 12 hours.

Residents of Faisal Town sub-division area protested for shut down. When contacted, XEN and SDO concerned expressed their ignorance about power outage.

The staff on duty at grid station also claimed that power supply was not suspended.

The rain inundated low-lying areas like College Town, Muslim Town, Danywal, Chak 9-11/WB, Chak 24/WB, People’s Colony and Luddan.

The injured people have been identified as Rahim, Imran, Maqsood, Islam of Luddan area, Ghulam Nabi, and Nawaz of Thingi Colony, Rafique, Ejaz, Kamran, Taufiq, Zulfiqar and Kulsoom of Machiwal.

The Met office has forecast more rain during the next 24 hours.

According to growers and agriculture experts the rain would be blessing for wheat sowing areas. However, it would be harmful for cotton stocks lying in the open in various parts of the district.

GANGS BUSTED: The Vehari police claimed to have busted three gangs of robbers and recovered big quantity of weapons and vehicles from their possession.

DPO Malik Tasadaq Hayat said at a press conference here on Monday that the gangs had been active in various parts of the Punjab, including Sahiwal, Sialkot, Lahore, Gujranwala, Multan, Kasur, and Gujrat, for the last one year.

He said a special team headed by Saddar DSP arrested the robbers who were involved in 28 crimes, including murder, kidnap and vehicle snatching.

The DPO said nine cars worth over Rs1.2 million, illegal weapons, including 44 rifles, 14 pistols and hundreds of bullets were recovered from their possession.

He named the gangs as Khabba gang, headed by Asghar of Chak 19/WB, Mansha of Chak 19/WB Vehari and Sajjad alias Syadi of Sahiwal.
