GUJRANWALA, Dec 4: Some unidentified men on Sunday kidnapped two doctors from Hafizabad Road and later demanded Rs5 million ransom for their release. Reports said Dr Latif Chaudhry and Dr Abdul Aziz, both neighbours in Wapda Town, had their private clinic at Qila Dedar Singh. On Saturday night, they were on their way back home by a car. Near Kot Ishaq, some motorists stopped them, shifted them to another vehicle and took them away. Later, the accused contacted families of the doctors and demanded Rs5 million ransom for their release.
Police have recovered doctors’ car from Awan Chowk. Further investigation is under way.
SUSPENDED: As many as four security guards of Ghulshan Iqbal Park were suspended from service by the Aroop town nazim for absence from duty here on Monday.
Reports said town nazim Rao Ikram Ali Khan paid a surprise visit to the park and checked security guards who were absent.
He suspended Abdul Aziz, Abdul Qayyum, Muhammad Abass and Khwaja M. Tariq from service and issued them show-cause notices.
He directed the park superintendent to ensure the attendance of all officials.
SUICIDE ATTEMPT: Two prisoners attempted suicide while the jail authorities registered a case against them here on Monday.
Reports said Waqas of Kunjah (Gujrat) and Waqas of Chak Jagna (Gujranwala) were involved in a dacoity case. They attempted suicide with a blade and were rushed to jail hospital. Superintendent Mian Shauket Ali got a case registered with civil line police against them.
FAKE NGOs: Fake non-governmental organisations (NGOs) would be blacklisted following scrutiny.
This was stated by newly appointed Punjab Social Welfare Minister Zila Huma Usman while speaking at a press conference here on Monday.
She said a special task force would be constituted for scrutiny of these NGOs. She claimed that over 10,000 women became members of PML in Gujranwala by her efforts.
She said an orphan house would be constructed in the city, besides revamping Darul Aman for women welfare.
