KARACHI: 31 suspected VHF patients admitted

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Dec 4: At least 31 new patients with mosquito-borne diseases, including dengue haemorrhagic fever, were admitted to 10 public and private hospitals in the city during the past 24 hours ending at 2pm on Monday.

The Dengue Fever Cell of the Sindh Health Department said that the over all number of patients with viral haemorrhagic fever or dengue in Karachi since June last had increased to 4,300 while 48 in-house patients left hospitals after recovering from such diseases.

Dr Tajammul Baig of the DFC said that during the last six months or so, a total of 4,426 such patients had been admitted to various hospitals in Sindh. Of them, 1,504 had been detected dengue-positive, he added.

The dengue viral fever has, so far, claimed 48 lives in the province, 44 of them in Karachi alone. The highest number of deaths in dengue cases has been reported by the Liaquat National Hospital.

A study of the DFC data shows that 10 new patients were rushed to the Dr Ziauddin Hospital, where 26 patients are already under treatment, during the past 24 hours. The patients had symptoms like high grade fever, rashes, joint pains and bleeding.

The National Institute of Child Health, which had discharged all such patients, received three new patients.
