Accused appears in court lip-stitched

By Faisal Ali

LAHORE, Dec 2: A local court on Saturday ordered the Kot Lakhpat jail authorities to conduct an inquiry into the alleged lip-stitching of a murder accused by some jail staff.

Abdul Razzaq, 35, imprisoned in the Kot Lakhpat jail for three and a half years, was produced before a Model Town court for hearing on Saturday.

Seeing him, civil judge Tariq Mehmmod Shah asked the reason for his stitched lips.

Razzaq alleged that jail officials Abid and Arshad used to extort Rs5,000 from him every month. He said when he could not pay the last ‘monthly’ to the said officials due to his sister’s marriage, they thrashed him severely and later locked him in a cell for 10 days and served no meals during that period.

The judge ordered the jail superintendent to hold an inquiry into the matter and a medical examination of Razzaq.

The jail officials, who were apparently ‘surprised’ at the ‘allegation’, said the accused might have tried to malign the administration by sewing his lips himself during his travel from jail to court or during his detention at the lockup.
