LAHORE, Dec 2: Leading four-year-old filly, Trace Hit, takes on Pakistan Derby 2005 winner, Thrill, when they measure each other's strides in the Rana Velvet Pakistan St. Leger over 2000m
at the Racecourse on Sunday.
Completing a hat-trick of victories with a facile win in the Pakistan Oaks a fortnight back, Khawaja M. Arif owned filly, Trace Hit has now sights on one of season's highlights open to four-year-old colts and fillies. Her main rival will be Thrill. The colt who, after winning the Derby in an incredible performance, has raced twice this season but ran off the frame in class I, II and III combined handicap events at top weight.
On classification thrill is a better horse in comparison to Trace Hit but recent showing and performance make Trace Hit an equally good performer to fight a grim battle for supremacy.
Thrill is under training of Haji Fazal Hadi, many a time champion trainer while Trace Hit is trained by Haji Ghulam Sarwar, who is affiliated with the leading stable of Lahore Race Club (LRC) chairman Tariq Aziz and company. It is also a contest between two Hajis for their worth in training skill, who excel each other in many ways.
It is interesting to note that St. Leger is a trial for Thrill, Trace Hit and another colt Fajr before the Quaid-I-Azam Cup in Karachi later this month, for which they are being sent from Lahore.
Nosha, Total Surprise and Challenger are prominent runners among ten drawn for the Murree Plate, a class IV handicap race to be contested over 1300m.
Nosha was beaten in his previous outing last Sunday and should make amends this time. Total Prize and Challenger may prove thorns in his way to success. This will be the fourth race in racing order. The third race Murree Plate, a class IV Division II handicap event looks a match between Baker's Gal and Namroud. The colt Namroud with an efficient and impressive action besides handicap advantage should have the better of his six rivals and win the race.
The opener, Lala Musa Plate, a term race for two-year-old half-bred colts and fillies, to be run over 1000m
has ten acceptors barring last-minute withdrawals.
Looking at the previous outing of two-year-olds, three fillies come into reckoning. They are: Richy Dancer, Aaja bulbul and Beautiful Baby. They should fight it out.
