KARACHI: ADB to closely monitor $800m project

KARACHI, Dec 2: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) will establish its office in the metropolis to accelerate the pace of studies and subsequent development projects to be carried out under the US$800 million Karachi Mega City Development Project.

The ADB’s country-director and Pakistan Resident Mission Peter L. Fedon called on City Nazim Mustafa Kamal on Saturday and exchanged views on the bank-funded project.

He informed the nazim about the setting up of an office in the city and said the project officer would reach the city on December 5 while an expert on solid waste management is already in the city for accelerating the pace of work on different studies which would be conducted at an estimated cost of US$13 million.

The nazim informed him that the city government through its own resources started several mega projects and completed many of them in a record time. He also lauded the posting of ADB's representatives in the city for the KMCDP and observed that their expertise would benefit the city government.

He hoped that the finalization and subsequent implementation of the city's first master plan would benefit the study work of the ADB on different mega projects the bank.
