KARACHI: 276 awarded degrees at 19th AKU convocation

KARACHI, Dec 2: As many as 276 graduates of medicine, nursing and teachers’ education programmes were conferred bachelor or masters’ degrees and diplomas at the 19th annual convocation of the Aga Khan University on Saturday.
AKU Chancellor Prince Karim Aga Khan presided over the ceremony and handed over degrees and awards to graduates in the presence of Senate Chairman Mohammedmian Soomro, who was chief guest on the occasion. Among other dignitaries and officials, Sindh Chief Minister Arbab Ghulam Rahim also attended the proceedings.
During the convocation, an investiture ceremony was also held for the second president of AKU, Firoz Rasul. He received a replica of the university seal in the form of a silver medallion from Prince Karim. Be it nursing graduates or education students, all beamed with a sense of joy and pride during their drill for degrees and other formalities. In the traditional head wears and convocation gowns, with motifs embroidered in a single braid with gold lining on white background, one of the graduates said that the convocation day was a great and important day of his life, which marked graduates’ embark to a new phase of life.
“We graduates can not forget the professional, moral and emotional support by our facilitators during our stay on the campus where we slept, sang, danced and cried, but now we are going back to our original homes knowing that our parents, friends and employers are waiting for us”, added the graduate.
Senate Chairman Mohammadmian Soomro said that these graduates were surely going to make a high-level impact in the society. “The people of Pakistan await you because you bring not only knowledge and skills, but also leadership and excellent ethics”, he added.
He said at a time when the entire world was striving for excellence, there rest a responsibilities on the literates and well-positioned quarters of the society to work under a new paradigm of change. Students, you are required to be active, dynamic and in tune with the principles required for growth, while caring for the maintenance of standards,
