Pakistan Punjab triumph

By Our Sports Correspondent

LAHORE, Dec 1: Pakistan Punjab defeated its Indian counterpart by a big margin of 16 1/2 points to 7 1/2 to annex the Indo-Pakistan Punjab Golf championship at Lahore Gymkhana on Friday.

Pakistan Punjab won seven of their 12 singles, although their target for the final day was just three wins. Top golfers Aadil Jehangir, Vaqas Ahmed, M Safdar, and Daniyal Jehangir all recorded wins.

As for the Indians, their team players in the 40-50 years age group looked a little too superior compared to the Pakistan Punjab members. Suman Puri had a great time on the Greens and Balwinder Singh and H.S.Bains were superb off the fairway.

The fourth one A.S.Grewal personified consistency to successfully beat Shakeel Ahmed.

For Pakistan Punjab, three players in 50 years age group, Javed Khan, Shafiq Bhatti and Dr Zahid Khan, went safely through in their singles matches.

Pakistanis have played well on this lovely golf course and Pakistan Punjab team captain Alam Sethi was definitely a satisfied person.

The Indian team captain, Harinder Singh was pretty happy with the course conditions and extremely pleased with the hospitality, saying that they felt 'spoiled'.
