Rugby championship starts today

LAHORE, Dec 1: Eleven teams will feature in the 16th National Rugby Championship to be held at Defence Stadium on Saturday and Sunday. Secretary Pakistan Rugby Union Arif Saeed, (own group) said at a press conference on Friday that Punjab has fielded three teams while other three provinces one each. LUMS has also fielded two teams.

The other competing teams are Army, Wapda and Police who have entered their teams for the first time. He said his body was affiliated with the International Rugby Board and Asian Rugby Union, since 2001 while his rival group had no standing.

He said a Pakistani umpire Rizwan Malik had been named as referee by the Asian Rugby Union to conduct the matches in the ongoing 15th Asian Games.
