By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Dec 1: The National University of Modern Languages and Sciences (NUMLS) and the Nakhchivan State University (NSU) of Azerbaijan have agreed to setting up chairs at each others campuses in the names of their eminent personalities to strengthen partnership in the education sector.

An agreement to this effect was signed by NSU Rector Prof Isa Habibbeyli Akber Oglu and NUMLS Rector Brig (retired) Aziz Ahmad Khan on Friday, a press note said.

The five-year agreement is renewable for the same period with the mutual sanction of both the universities.

Under the agreement, the two universities will share their scientific and academic research works.

Other salient features of the agreement include compilation and publication of books and articles in both countries, participation of the representatives of the two universities in scientific and cultural conferences, symposiums and seminars, arranging cultural gatherings such as concerts, art galleries, films, plays etc., involving teachers and students, and use of latest means of communication and knowledge sharing.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Isa Habibbeyli Akber Oglu, who is also member of the Azerbaijan’s National Assembly, said Azerbaijan and Pakistan were very close to each other and the accord would strengthen the existing fraternal ties between the two countries.

Acknowledging the sentiments of goodwill, the NUMLS rector said there were many commonalities between the culture and traditions of the peoples of Pakistan and Azerbaijan.

He said from the geographical point of view, Pakistan was an extension of Central Asia.

Later, Prof Isa visited various departments of NUMLS, including IT, library and the newly-established laboratory of Chinese Confucius Institute.
