KARACHI, Dec 1: The exhibition of Syrian paintings in Pakistan is a first step towards the exchange of art and culture and building ties in this field between the two countries.

This was stated by Ambassador of the Syrian Arab Republic Dr Riad Ismat while speaking to the media at the opening of paintings by a renowned Syrian artist, Adib Fattal, here at an art gallery on Friday.Dr Ismat said strong bilateral ties existed between Syria and Pakistan in many areas, saying the exhibition of Syrian art here had opened another avenue of cooperation and exchange.

He said the artist's paintings depicted in a unique style the landmark buildings situated in major cities of Islamic countries.

Adib Fattal is a rare kind of an optimist whose paintings are ablaze with colours. In his search for beauty, he evokes pleasant images retained from childhood memories, including scenes from Syria, Palestine and Lebanon.

Adib may not belong to any particular school as his style is a combination of primitive art and fantasy. Some paintings look like miniatures in Persian art, others recall Palestinian embroidery or mosaics in a mosque or church.

About 41 paintings were put on display. A number of art lovers, art students and others came to witness the paintings.

The exhibition will continue till December 15. —APP
