KARACHI, Dec 1: A group of physically challenged people on Friday demanded of the government to enforce implementation of the two per cent employment quota reserved for them so that they could also play their due role in the society.
Speaking at a press conference at the Karachi Press Club, the representatives of Sindh Disability Forum further demanded that their quota in parliament be fixed like that of women and minorities.
They said that handicapped people in the country comprised around 10 per cent of the entire population but they were not represented in the highest decision making body so their rights were not being safeguarded properly.
They also urged the government to direct the transporters to equip their vehicles with special facilities for the physically challenged.
They said that they were arranging a meeting at the Karachi Press Club on December 3 to celebrate the International Day for the Disabled.
They said that other organisations of the handicapped would celebrate the occasion at the local level on December 2.
SDF representatives Javed Raees, Mobinuddin, Lal Baloch, Ahsan Mahmood and others also spoke.
