Pakistan lead in golf contest

By Our Sports Correspondent

LAHORE, Nov 30: The Pakistan Punjab team entered the final day of the three-day 2nd Punjab Golf Cup with a seven points lead over Indian Punjab team, at the Lahore Gymkhana course on Thursday.

In the individual event, the visitors also have an uphill task ahead to win on the final day Friday, as they have to win 9 individual matches out of 12.

The top Indian pairing of J.S.Dullet and B.S.Ghumman were beaten by Vaqas Ahmed and Aadil Jehangir 2/1. The home pair showed domination with nine birdies that helped them to successfully curb the onslaught launched by the Indian pair.

Another Pakistan Punjab pair of Daniyal Jehangir/M.Safdar defeated H.S.Kang/ Balwinder Singh, with an exceptional performance by Daniyal who birdied at the last hole from six feet.

India's only victory came through their pairing of H.S.Bains and B.Singh. They routed the Pak Punjab pair of Aamir Mehmood and Tariq Chaudhry.

The Pakistan Punjab duo Javed A.Khan/Lt.Col.Jameel Khalid and Shafiq Bhatti/ Dr.Zahid A.Khan were methodical in their shot making and with unruffled composure defeated the Indian Punjab pairings of Brig.P.P.Dhillon/ A.S.Grewal and I.P.S.Mann/ T.S.Sibia.

The match between Shahid A.Khan/Shakeel Ahmed and Suman Puri/A.S.Grewal ended in draw after Shahid A Khan's excellent chip from the fringe helped the Pak Punjab to level the score.
