Dr Mahmood’s services eulogised

Lahore, Nov 30: University of Health Sciences board of governors’ chairman and former Punjab health and information minister, the late Prof Dr Mahmood Ahmad Chaudhry’s services were eulogized here on Thursday.

Speaking at a reference organized in memory of Prof Chaudhry at the UHS, Governor Khalid Maqbool said that he was a competent surgeon and a kind human being.

He said that he would be remembered for his services for the UHS and the Shaikh Zayed Hospital. To improve the standard of medical education and the welfare of doctors and paramedical staff was his mission, he added.

Recalling his last meeting with Prof Mahmood in which he said that he wanted to make the UHS a world-class institution, the governor pledged that Prof Mahmood’s dream would be realised. He said all resources would be utilised for further strengthening of the institution.

Khalid Maqbool said that Prof Mahmood was an upright person and never compromised on principles. He said after assuming the governor’s office he used to take guidance from Prof Mahmood on health issues as he had vast experience in the field. His efforts for formulating statutes of the autonomous hospitals and up-gradation of district and tehsil hospitals would be remembered, he said.

UHS Vice-Chancellor Prof Malik Husain Mubashar said that the world knew Prof Mahmood as a surgeon but he was also expert in literature, architecture, Philosophy, politics and humanism.

Prof Mahmood’s brothers, friends and senior doctors also spoke. A large number of students attended the reference.

Meanwhile, another reference for Prof Mahmood was held at the Post Graduate Medical Institute here on Thursday.
