QUETTA, Nov 30: Workers and supporters of the Jamait Ulema-i-Islam (Fazl) held a rally here on Thursday in protest against the passage of the women’s rights bill by parliament and termed it `obscenity bill’.
The protesters gathered at the Meezan Chowk and raised slogans against President Pervez Musharraf and US President George Bush and vowed to continue their struggle against the anti-Islamic laws.
Speaking on the occasion, Maulana Noor Muhammad, who has resigned from his National Assembly seat, former senator Hafiz Fazal Ahmed Breach and Maulana Abdul Qadir Luni alleged that President Musharraf was carrying out the agenda of western powers led by the United States and allowing the Pakistani soil to be used as shelter for infidels.
They said that passage of the alleged anti-Islam bill in the name of protection of women’s rights, raids on seminaries and arrests of innocent students after labelling them Taliban was aimed to appease the United States.
They said the United States would face a humiliating defeat in Afghanistan and Iraq at the hands of Mujahideen.
They said that coalition forces had failed to suppress resistance movements in Kabul and Baghdad.
They said the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam would continue its struggle against the anti-Islam policies of military rulers and urged the religious parties to forge unity among their ranks for enforcement of Islamic laws in the country to protect women’s rights.
