Laws to check violence against women being ignored
CHAKWAL, Nov 30: Speakers at a seminar on Thursday said that violence against women was on the rise and the relevant laws were not being implemented in the country.
The event was presided over by Tehsil Nazim Sardar Aftab Akbar and organised by Rahnuma Family Planning Association.
People who spoke on the occasion included Barrister Jahangir Jadoon, Junaid Swati, EDO Health Iqbal Kahut, SP Investigation Abdul Jalil Malik and Ex-DG Federal Judicial Academy Chaudhry Hassan Nawaz.
The speakers said that by adopting the teachings of Islam, violence against women can be controlled.
Nazim Aftab Akbar stressed on the need to educate women. They should be educated and made skillful which would strengthen them, and violence against women will be reduced automatically,” he added.
Besides others, the seminar was also attended by local nazims, naib nazims, councillors, lawyers and journalists.
POET HONOURED: The Bazm-i-Adbiat Chakwal arranged a meeting to honour poet Mehr Mastan Ali Javid at the local press club.
“District Chakwal is not only a historical place and custodian of an ancient civilization but also the land of a great sofi poet Hazrat Shah Murad, who is a big name in Punjabi Ghazal,” chairman of the organization, Khawaja Babar Saleem, said on the occasion.
The meeting was presided over by Munnawar Aziz. Those poets who recited their verses on the occasion included Qazi Baqir Waseem, Khawaja Babar Saleem, Mohammad Hussain Baho, Malik Safiuddin Safi, Khawaja Danial Salem, Prof Naeem Shahid, Ashraf Asif, Prof Ehsan Ellahi Ehsan, Munawar Aziz, Abid Jafri and Mehr Mastan Ali Javid.
A local award, Dhan Chorasi, was presented to Mehr Mastan for the services rendered by him to Punjabi literature.
