KARACHI: Final session of Sindh PA begins today

KARACHI, Nov 30: The Sindh Assembly meets at 9am on Friday to start its requisitioned session. This may be the last session of the legislature’s calendar year ending December 11.

There are six items in the order of the day for the session, including oath taking of the new member Agha Taimoor, a privilege motion and an adjournment motion filed by leader of the opposition Nisar Ahmed Khuhro urging the Sindh government to seek compensation from the Centre for the losses the province had been suffering for years due to the curtailed share in the irrigation water.

While the questions hour pertains to the Finance Department, the house will take up three government bills during the session. They are Bill No.18 of 2006 calling for amendment to the Societies Registration Act-1860 in its application to the province of Sindh; Bill No.19 of 2006 seeking revival of and amendment to certain laws relating to the development authorities in the province; and Bill No.20 of 2006 further amending the local government order.

Nominations of two members to the Standing Committee on Local Government Department and another one to the Standing Committee on Finance would be made.

Parliamentary party of the PPP which met here on Thursday, formulated its strategy for the session while the MMA parliamentary party will hold a meeting for the purpose on Friday morning before commencement of the session.

The ruling coalition’s parliamentary party will also meet at 8am on Friday.
