KARACHI, Nov 30: Speakers paid rich tributes to a former federal minister Mehmood Ali for his services during the Pakistan movement and after the tragic incident of 1971.
They were speaking at a condolence reference organised by the Quaid-i-Millat Liaquat Ali Khan Memorial Committee at the Hilal-i-Ahmer House here on Thursday.
Speaking on the occasion, Aziz A. Munshi said that Mehmood Ali was a true freedom fighter, who continuously worked for the cause of Muslim Ummah.
Recalling his love for the country, he said that the late leader never accumulated wealth or did something for his personal projection, but always focussed on transforming the country according to the wishes of the Quaid-i-Azam had wished.
He said that Mehmood Ali was the founder of a theory ‘one nation in two states’ and worked for the unity of the East and West Pakistan till his last breath.
Mr Munshi said that in Pakistan, the rulers never thought seriously for the betterment of the country, otherwise the ideas of the late leader would have been materialised during his life time.
Had the leaders paid any attention towards the ideas of Mehmood Ali, the country would have never separated, said Iqbal Hussein.
He also recalled services of the late leader for the country and the nation and asked the people to follow him.
Mehmmodul Aziz in his speech said that the late leader always pointed out the nefarious designs of the United States of America (USA) against the Muslim Ummah and openly slammed Zionist forces.
Mehfoozun Nabi Khan said that Mehmood Ali always raised the issue of Pakistanis stranded in Bangladesh after 1971. He also recalled the services of late leader he rendered for better relations of Pakistan with other countries, especially with Libya.
Khwaja Salman said that the late leader always favoured friendly relations with China and opposed Indian aggression in the occupied Kashmir.
Dr Arshad Malik was of the view that the late leader rejected all the shining portfolios offered to him in East Pakistan and preferred to stay here to work for the unity of the two nations. He also worked truly for the development of the country and used all his official influence for the elimination of poverty and ignorance from the country.
