Benazir seeks public support for PPP in elections

By Our Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Nov 29: Pakistan People’s Party chairperson Benazir Bhutto on Wednesday called upon people to support PPP and its allies in 2007 elections.

In her message on the eve of 39th founding day of the PPP falling on November 30 she said by supporting ‘true’ democratic parties in the elections the masses would be playing their role in getting the country rid of rising unemployment, back-breaking inflation and education and health problems.

“This November we celebrate the 39th anniversary of the founding day of the Pakistan Peoples Party, a party that was to sweep like a tidal wave across Pakistan awakening the people to their destiny of empowerment, fundamental rights, representative government and justice,” she said.

She paid tributes to those who spent years in prison, whose homes were raided, who were tear gassed and baton charged, whose jobs were snatched, whose livelihoods were destroyed and family lives disrupted but they upheld the flag of the Party raising the morale of the people struggling for their federal, democratic and basic rights.

PUNJAB PPP: In their messages PPP Punjab president Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi, secretary-general Ghulam Abbas, information secretary Farzana Rajaa vowed to continue struggle for a democratic and egalitarian Pakistan. “PPP has always been at the forefront for the rights of the people and solidarity of the country.”

They asked the Pakistan People’s Party workers to get ready to welcome Ms Benazir Bhutto back in the country and see her as Prime Minister for third time.

“The PPP’s founding principles are as relevant today as they were 39 years ago. The party manifesto promises a struggle for restoring the sovereignty of the people and the Parliament,” they said.

They said the Pakistan People’s Party has many achievements to its credit and prominent among them was the struggle it waged against Gen Ziaul Haq’s martial law for eight long years.
