By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Nov 29: A joint operation of the Citizen-Police Liaison Committee and the Anti-Violent Crime Cell led to the arrest of members of a gang involved in the kidnapping and killing of a young boy in Landhi.

A statement issued by the CPLC said that on September 9 2006 Sadaqat reported to the CPLC that his 12-year-old son Owais had been kidnapped.

On the night of November 27/28, the investigation team apprehended accused Farhan in Korangi.

His arrest also led to the rounding up of his accomplice Umair, who was picked up in Landhi. However, their third accomplice, Raheel, was still absconding, the statement added.

The investigation team also found the body of Owais in a nullah where the suspects had dumped it after killing the boy.

During interrogation the accused confessed that the boy was taken to a house in Noorani Basti in Korangi where he was tied up and killed.

Later they threw his body into the Korangi nullah and started calling his father for ransom.

Umair, the son of a maidservant of the complainant, decided to first kill the boy so that he could not be identified.

Meanwhile, the accused kept negotiating the ransom amount with the father of the victim, the statement recalled.
