KARACHI, Nov 29: Muttahida Qaumi Movement leader Dr Farooq Sattar has described the upcoming general elections as ‘very significant’ in view of the serious challenges, both at national and international levels, being faced by the country. The outcome of these elections would decide the country’s future, he observed.
Dr Sattar, Deputy Convenor of the MQM Coordination Committee, was speaking at an Eid Milan party hosted by an association of Clifton’s Block-2 residents.
He told the audience that MQM was the only party in the country that was fully aware of the problems being faced by the middle and lower-middle class people because it came from and represented these very classes. He said that the rule by two per cent privileged class over the 98 per cent population of the under-privileged ever since the creation of Pakistan was the root-cause of all problems that the common man was faced with today.
Speaking on the occasion, Sindh Minister for Local Government Mohammad Hussain said that the MQM believed in serving masses without any discrimination. In this context, he referred to the equal allocation of funds to all 18 towns of Karachi district by the city government, saying this had never been in practice.
He pointed out that various developments schemes were being executed across the mega city simultaneously in order to make up for 1992-2002 period during which no significant development work had be done by the parties in power at city and provincial levels.
He said the government was encouraging local and foreign investors for improving infrastructural facilities and attaching priorities to the development work that could also generate employment opportunities on a big scale.
Mr Hussain assured residents of Clifton’s Block 2 that their problems relating to water, sewerage and roads would be solved soon.
Adviser to the CM on Home Waseem Akhtar pointed out that every step was being taken to control street crime, and noted that the ban on pillion riding had helped greatly in this regard.
Earlier, President of the Association Abdul Sami Khan welcomed the guests and highlighted the problems being faced by the area residents.
