KARACHI, Nov 29: The government of Sindh has notified the Sindh Public Procurement Ordinance-2006. Issued by the Secretary, Law Department, on Wednesday, the ordinance has come into force at once and shall be deemed as having came into effect on and from November 30, 2006.
The ordinance provides for the establishment of a Public Procurement Regulatory Authority for regulating procurement of goods, services and works in the public sector and for the related matters.
The new Authority shall be a corporate body having perpetual succession and a common seal with powers subject to the provision of the ordinance to acquire and hold property, both moveable and immovable, and sue and be sued by the name assigned to it.
Besides, the Authority may take such measures and exercise such powers, as may be necessary, for improving governance, management, transparency, accountability and quality of public procurement of goods, services and works in the public sector.—PPI
