JHANG, Nov 28: People from different walks of life have urged Fesco chief executive to take measures for the eradication of malpractice in the department pointed out by some of the audiences present in the open kutchery held by him at the Canal Rest House a few days ago.
Rights activist Qamar Zaidi told this correspondent that some serious allegations were levelled by some of the participants in the kutchery. A group of people staged a demonstration also by displaying banners but the chief executive, according to him, turned a dead ear to all these proceedings and left Jhang for Faisalabad without any orders on any of the complaints.
A notable of Jhang, Ishaq Qadri, said he pointed out to the Fesco CE that high intensity wire was passing overhead at a very low height from the roofs of the houses in the locality he lived, posing serious threat to the people. Three people had already died by accidentally touching the wire. The Fesco CE issued no orders on the spot or afterwards to address this serious problem.
A journalist reminded him of a recent incident when during a meeting in the SE office an office superintendent had thrashed an executive engineer (XEN). Later the XEN was transferred.
He asked the CE whether any action was being taken against the office superintendent who said that he was ordering an inquiry into the matter.
Miss Tahira, office manager in HRCP office, drew the attention of the CE towards power theft being carried out at Fawara Chowk where some fruit vendors and shopkeepers were getting electricity directly from the meter board meant for power supply to public lavatories. She particularly referred to a fruit merchant having a large size cart which was illuminated by several tube lights and bulbs of various colours by using power stolen with the alleged connivance of local Fesco officials. No orders were issued on this complaint either.
When tried to contact Jhang SE to know if any action was taken by the authorities, his staff said he (SE) had gone to Bhakkar on an official tour. The deputy commercial manager of the SE office was, however, available and said that taking electricity from anybody else’s meter did not fall in the category of power theft although it was illegal. The illegal connections being used by the Fawara Chowk vendors had been severed by the Fesco staff after the open kutchery.
But, HRCP office sources said illegal connections were still intact and no effort had been made by the Fesco authorities to remove them.
