KARACHI: Dengue kills another woman

KARACHI, Nov 28: One more dengue affected female patient died at a hospital as new dengue cases remained stable during the past 24 hours ending at 2pm on Tuesday.

With the latest loss of life that took place after a gap of one week, the dengue death toll rose to 43 in Karachi.

Dr Tajammul Baig of Dengue Fever Cell said the deceased, Zarmer Jan, 42, was a resident of Al-Azam Square, Liaquatabad. She was brought to the Liaquat National Hospital on Nov 27, where she died within four hours of her admission the same evening, he added saying that the patient was earlier treated by some physician in her locality.

Replying to a question, he said he had been told that serological test of the woman was pending, but doctors found her case with symptoms similar to that of dengue fever. He said 24 new patients suspected suffering from viral haemorrhagic fever and dengue were reported in Karachi. The overall suspected in-house patients were 182.

Since June, 4,296 patients, including 41,86 in Karachi, have been admitted to hospitals in Sindh. The total deaths of dengue in Sindh rose to 47 with the latest death in Karachi. Around 1,400 were tested dengue positive in Karachi.

According to the Dengue Fever Cell data released on Tuesday, 10 new patients were admitted to Aga Khan University Hospital in the last 24 hours while six at Dr Ziauddin Hospital and four at Civil Hospital Karachi.

The patients’ position in different city hospitals on Tuesday remained as follows: Aga Khan University Hospital-25(10 new cases), Liaquat National Hospital-38(4), Civil Hospital Karachi-6(2), Dr Ziauddin Hospital-35(6), JPMC 16(no new case), Bismillah Taqee Hospital-12(zero), National Institute of Child Health-3(1), Abassi Shaheed Hospital-35(zero), Baqai Hospital-3 (zero), Darul Shifa-1(1) and Patel Hospital-9(zero).
