KARACHI: Child reunited with parents

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Nov 28: Police on Saturday recovered a minor child, who worked as a domestic servant and was made hostage by his employer in DHA.

The boy, Mustafa, 11, was later handed over to the parents at Gizri police station.

Mustafa was given away by his parents, Noshair and Wallan, for a one-year contract after getting Rs9,600 in advance. Mustafa worked as domestic servant for a year. When the parents demanded the return of their child after the contract ended, the employer refused to hand over the child to his parents and demanded a replacement or Rs6,000.

The parents got worried when the boy managed to contact his parents and told them that his employer was subjecting him to torture. They contacted the Society for the Protection of the Rights of the Child (Sparc) for recovery of their child.

An official of the society’s Sindh chapter, said: “we brought the case to the knowledge of Clifton police who contacted the owner of the house and called them to Gizri police station where they admitted their fault and handed over the child to his parents.”
